Worst Halloween Costumes 2008

Filed under: Seattle — Brock @ 6:37 am

Here are this years losers who graced our doorstep:

Green Bay Packerкомпютри втора употреба - aka a kid with a green parka on. C’mon, at least wear some tights or a helmet or something. Or how about a jersey?

Chicago Bull - aka a kid with a Chicago parka on. No basketball shorts or even a basketball. And of course he was with the Green Bay kid.

By the way, I saw the Green Bay Packer kid in his “Halloween costume” as I was driving home today.

New song and a re-master

Filed under: Music — Brock @ 11:57 pm

Hi all, I’ve uploaded a new song called The Sun that I’ve been toying around with for a while (you can listen to it here). It’s an ambient number that kind of started off as a funky 70’s riff on the bass, which you can hear in the intro.

I also re-mastered Greener Pastors, making it sound a little louder and fuller. The updated version has also been uploaded to Reverb Nation.

And in case you haven’t been tuning in, I have a relatively new song called I Believe Your Story up. It’s a short little pop ditty that is sure to brighten your day. I also have a cover of the Cocteau Twins’ Lorelei, which is a pretty shoegazer/goth song from the 80s. Lot’s of exciting things from Skyway Studios!

Plume of smoke at 1am

Filed under: Seattle — Brock @ 6:12 am

So Layla wakes me up this morning at 1 AM, suggesting I call the police because a car slammed into our neighboor’s gate. Nay, not just slammed once, but twice so as to completely knock the poor wooden gate down. Layla frantically motioned to the window, where we could clearly see the black station wagon sitting and sending a fluffy pillar of smoke over our corner of Jet City. I didn’t have to call the police, however. Within minutes two ambulances and two police cars zoomed in. A shocked homeowner came out from the house waving his arms in dismay at the car. Paramedics hopped off their ambulances and evacuated the driver from her car. The police arrested her and set aside a suspicious-looking brown paper bag as evidence. That’s what Layla tells me anyway, I just went back to sleep.

Heart-wrenching music video

For some reason every time I see this Death Cab for Cutie music video for Different Names for the Same Thing I break out into tears.

Something buried deep in my id?

Sonic nostalgia: Silversun Pickups

Filed under: Music — Brock @ 7:56 pm

Layla, who is ever listening to radio, recommended a new band to me: Silversun Pickups. Honestly, I’m usually rather skeptical with recommendations but this one is gold.

Their sound hearkens back to early 90’s fuzz rock. Perhaps I’m just using the music to satisfy my nostalgia, or maybe its just really good.

Not So Goode

Filed under: Politics — Brock @ 1:12 am

Senator-elect Virgil Goode (Virginia, R), besides slamming senator-elect Keith Ellison (Minnesota, D) for wanting to swear in with the Koran rather than the Bible, made this statement in a letter to his constituents:

I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States. (source)

What a xenophobic and insensitive thing to say. I really wish that ultra-conservative Americans would stop making such remarks which, in the end, cast our whole country in a negative light. Again, one of our leaders makes the US look bigoted and backwards.

How do Muslims see this? An Al-Jazeerah article headlines “Virginia Representative Virgil Goode Slams the Holy Qur’an, Election of Muslims, and Growth of US Islamic Community”. This sensationalist title is unfortunately accurate.

Job Offer

Filed under: Seattle — Brock @ 1:54 am

I got a job offer today from Amazon.com! I still need to figure out if it would be the best thing for me and Layla, but it’s exciting to know that I can work there if I want to. They will fly me out for the first weekend in November to tour Amazon and Seattle.

Life is good.

You too can scam others while feeding your baby green jello!

Filed under: Happy Valley — Brock @ 6:58 pm

This morning, while driving to work, I saw a white Ford Aerostar with these words painted in soap on it’s rear window:

Make $10K/day working PT from home!

It also, of course, provided a phone number to help any interested party make their millions.

Mini van + multi-level marketing scheme = Ironic symbol of Utah Valley culture
